A Love to Call Mine is a tender story that deals with some serious issues. Max had quite a journey of learning to trust God through cancer, learning to forgive, learning to allow others to help him, and to let them see into his heart.Despite the serious nature of the book, the overall tone was mostly hopeful (it wouldn’t have been realistic to not have the characters experience some doubt!) While there was a bit of discussion of cancer treatment, chemo effects, and other medical things, they were mostly just mentions and not too much for this wimp to handle. In fact, the author did a great job of handling this subject with great sensitivity and tact.

Max is seriously ill but God and Heather help him through this terrible time. I love the way the story shows how a person can be helped.
How to mess up your life without really trying seems to be the hero's problem in this story. Holding on to an old love and not seeing what is in front of him leads to a rocky road to romance.
I was already a fan of Author Merrillee Whren's books, and reading this story reminded me why! I really enjoy her style of writing, and in this story the characters and life situations are very realistic. I'm loving this series, and look forward to reading the next one. FIVE STARS!!
This is a wonderful series of faith-filled romantic stories. But they are true to life, with the twists and turns to keep
things interesting and exciting.. This book dealt with the struggle of cancer, something very familiar to me, and the emotions involved.
I truly enjoy the fact that these are stand alone books, but with the familiarity of bits and pieces from other stories.
Not the fast paced story I usually read. However the different struggles were enough to keep me interested. Cancer is a tough subject but this booked included the emotional struggles those close to the patient have to deal with as well as those of the patient. Add longing for family members you dont know if you can find created more struggles.
A friend recommended this author to me and I'm so glad she did! Cancer is one of those horrible things that eventually affects us all in one way or another. Mrs. Whren tells a beautiful story of realistically flawed people and how they handled this storm in their lives. What a great reminder to trust that the Lord will use all things in our lives for our good and His glory if we will allow Him. I highly recommend this book, and the first one in this series, and I'm looking forward to reading Mrs. Wren's other books!
This the second time I have read Marrillee Whren’s book, A Love to Call Mine, and I still love it. It is the second book in the Front Porch Promises series. The cover of the book with the rocking chair on the front porch just seems to invite you in to a warm and happy experience. Each of the books can stand alone, but I think you would enjoy the whole series. This book is the story of Max, a cancer patient and Heather an oncology nurse. It deals with the issues of facing cancer, rejection and the ordinary or not ordinary issues of life that challenge each of us to simply put our trust in God. Marrillee does a wonderful job weaving this story and pulling us into the action until we feel we are a part of it. I highly recommend book and give it a five start rating.
